Expository: Kitchen Confidential
In a funny and fast-paced memoir, Anthony Bourdain took
readers on a tour of what he called the “culinary underbelly.” It is an often
seedy and unvarnished look at his rise from lowly dishwasher to world-renowned chef.
The expository essay you will write about Kitchen Confidential
has two parts:
Part 1: First, on Thu 11.15, come to class with a prompt of your
own design. You may focus your prompt on any aspect of the book, but be sure
that it has enough breadth to sustain a 750-word essay. We will workshop prompts
in class. Then, along with your prompt, have a draft thesis ready. This thesis will also be workshopped. Bring both items on one hard copy.
Part 2: On Tue 11.20 (note the Tuesday due date), you will
bring one hard copy of your completed essay to class. In class, we will
annotate it. Instructions will be given at that time.
Required:
- MLA Style
- Approximately 750 words
- Works cited page
Due: PART 1- TUE 11.27 (PROMPT; BRING 1 COPY); PART 2- THU 11.29 (FINAL DRAFT; BRING 1 COPY—NO EMAIL SUBMISSIONS)*
